Enter the Deep Learning network

A simple network to understand everything down to the smallest detail: use simple learning scenarios to understand and teach step-by-step how artificial neural networks work. Make your own connections within the network and observe the effects on the robot's movements. Using a range of displays (activity values, connection thicknesses, colours for learning, etc.), explain in images the learning equations that automatically optimise these connections.

Complex networks for scaling up: Activate the camera and the intermediate layers of neurons and see how the simple principles detailed above can be used to learn complex behaviours (obstacle avoidance, pushing a ball, etc.) after thousands of neurons and hundreds of thousands of connections have been scaled up. Programming and coding in Python

Conventional programming: A dedicated Python library lets you take control of the robot from the computer, using simple instructions to steer the motors, retrieve sensor data and program movements, exit mazes, etc., without necessarily requiring AI. It is also possible to run Python code directly on the Raspberry Pi for faster reaction times.

Programming AI using a modular approach: Choose the "student code" algorithm option and code the algorithm of your choice in the boxes provided: the AlphAI platform takes care of all the input-output machinery and you concentrate on what's most interesting! Even simpler than AI, program your own reward function to make AlphAI learn new behaviours. Our NSI speciality practical work sheets provide examples of how to work through the programme's programming points.

Other systems: Learning Robots is working on making the AphAI software compatible with other robots and automated systems, so that they can be controlled by learning. You can also carry out your own projects to develop new hardware to be controlled with AlphAI.
