Version 3.0 is the latest version of the best-selling mono amplifier kit, which can be used with any personal stereo equipment, including MP3 players, making it an excellent kit option for an amplifier box design project. 

It uses an NCP2890 audio amplifier IC that is pre-mounted on the bottom of the board and has an output power of 1.0W. The NCP2890 is an audio power amplifier for portable communication devices, developed for mobile phones and PDAs. The IC also features a "Pop and Click" noise protection IC for start-up and shut-down.

The kit comes with a prefabricated jack wire, a 66mm 8 ohm speaker and a pack of AA batteries. It can operate on any voltage between 2.2 and 5.5 volts (absolute maximum 6V). See the Contents section for a full list of components.

Previous versions of this amp contained a PP3 power connector and were designed to run on 9V, whereas V3.0 is designed to run on two AA batteries. There are several advantages to using AA batteries rather than PP3 batteries, including the fact that AA batteries are much cheaper, more readily available and will last much longer than PP3 batteries, perhaps up to 10 times longer.
