Makey Makey for schools: the STEM Classroom package
MaKey-MaKey is a small invention kit supplied with a MaKey-MaKey card, wires, alligator clips and a USB cable. You can take everyday objects and turn them into a touchpad that interacts with a computer program. Objects attached to MaKey-MaKey become "buttons" that replace a basic keyboard or mouse.
Here are some examples of everyday objects that you can connect with your STEM classroom Makey kit :

Regarding the use of MaKey-MaKey in the classroom, the goal is for students to understand how and why to use MaKey MaKey. There is no good way to implement this incredible invention tool but you will be able to organize 30 to 60 minute sessions for :
- Engage students by assembling and connecting a few MaKey-MaKeys to computers with an on-screen program or game. Many free MaKey-MaKey applications (fun games) are available online thanks to the large community.
- Teach students to assemble the MaKey-MaKey in small groups with a laptop. They will be able to find an online game adapted to the educational program and make it work by pressing arrows connected to the alligator clips of the Makey Makey.
- To teach students the basics of block coding. There are many different programs available for beginner coders. They can then transfer the skills they have learned to the Scratch program . They will then be able to learn the ins and outs of Scratch programming.
- Creativity with Makey Makey STEM has no limits and students can write their own story, game or interactive animation related to a subject they are working on at school. Their creation should be controlled by the four arrows on the computer keyboard. They will end up assembling and plugging in a MaKey to control their program.
