We can see that the share of educational robots offered for financing on crowdfunding platforms is as high as that of toy robots. Two categories that seem to be causing a stir and I'm going to talk to you here about a new educational robot that has already been funded up to $100,000 on Kickstarter. There are still 31 days left for the project to go further and allow manufacturers to add many new features later.

An educational robot for home

Some of the educational robots we offer on Robot Advance, such as the Lego Education Wedo 2.0, are more difficult for some parents to learn and therefore more dedicated to use in school. They allow the creation of relevant courses to teach children to develop certain skills.

This is not the case with the Codey Rocky robot, which is a small robot that children can have at home and with which they can learn or have fun in total autonomy. An advantage for parents who also like to take time for themselves while the children are having fun alone or with each other.

Codey Rocky, robot to play and learn

Codey Rocky is a new robot that will certainly make its appearance in Europe in 2018. Just like other new products presented here (Kubo robot, Woobo plush or robopal), it is a robot at an affordable price that allows children to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Electronics and Mathematics) from the age of 6. The objective of this educational robot is to teach children:

• The basics of programming thanks to a friendly graphical interface 
• To make their creativity work

The robot is actually delivered in two parts:

• Codey, the detachable controller that contains more than 10 electronic modules that can be controlled by the code. This part is held like a handheld and allows you to interact with a program created on the computer
• Rocky, the car on which Codey can be installed, so that intelligent programs can be run anywhere

This robot, half toy and half educational, will allow children to work on different things:

• Coding for beginners
• The logic
• The expression of creativity
• The principles of artificial intelligence (AI)

All this while having fun, which is what makes these new models of educational robots so successful. 

Makeblock programming language mBlock mBlock 5

We have already introduced the new Makeblock robots, I invite you to take a look at the page again to learn more about their programming language. This Codey Rocky robot will be based on the mBlock 5 program (based on scratch 3.0 and succeeding mBlock 3 based on scratch 2.0). A fun software, simple to use and above all easy to learn for beginners. 

This programming language can be used on MacBook, ChromeBook or PC and offers you to get to the heart of the matter very simply to set up your first programs.

For older children who already have advanced coding basics, it is possible to transform the graphical user interface into Python (Lines of code) and connect to the Internet. New possibilities offered since you will be able to control your house, obtain automatic weather reports or even use Codey Rocky as a speaker for your playlists: everything depends on your imagination.

It is interesting to note that the different programs created can be easily transferred to your Codey Rocky robot using Wifi.

Robot modules and components

The components of this educational robot are similar to those seen on other models presented in this robotics news section that allow Codey Rocky to interact with the external environment.

We can thus find on the Codey part of the robot:

• Infrared sensor
• Sensitive sensor for touching it
• Voice sensor
• 6-axis gyroscope
• Microphone

The Rocky part of the robot contains when it is:

• Color sensor
• Proximity sensor
• Grey scale sensor
